Dear Colleagues and Friends,
The Tissue Banking Community is extremely saddened by the death of Professor Kazimierz Ostrowski, European Association of Tissue Banks Honorary Member, Polish Transplantation Society Honorary Member, Polish Academy of Science Full Member, Polish Academy of Arts and Science Member, Doctor Honoris Causa of the Warsaw Medical University and the University of Orlean. Profesor Ostrowski passed away unexpectedly on Saturday 9 January 2010 after a short stay in Warsaw Medical University Hispital. He was 88 years old.
Professor Ostrowski was a renowned expert on tissue banking and one of the leading personalities in this field. He earned international acclaim for his scientific work on musculo-skeletal tissue grafts and radiation sterilisation. Professor Ostrowski was also one of the active founders and the spiritual fathers of the European Association of Tissue Banks.
Professor Ostrowski worked at the Warsaw Medical University in the Department of Histology for over 50 years. He was a great scientist, academic teacher and manager.
Our deepest condolences go to all his Colleagues and Friends. We will always remember Professor Ostrowski as an outstanding researcher and thinker.
